Tips for removing glue from false(fake) nails
There are many methods that allow you to remove glue from false nails, either naturally or by using specific products.
Tip 01: Remove the glue with soft and natural products.
The first tip is to use gentle and acetone-free products, namely:
soapy water
Did you know that soap and water are enough to remove the glue under false nails? Indeed, it is the most gentle and least “risky” method of all. All you have to do is soak the affected area in lukewarm, soapy water. Then rub gently. The more foam, the better. You can practice this method everywhere, even at home!
lemon juice
You probably know that glue is not resistant to products containing acid. So why not use natural acid to remove glue from false nails? Lemon juice is indeed an excellent cleaning product to get rid of glue residue on your hands.
Just put some lemon juice on your fingers, and everything will be perfectly cleaned. Added to this, lemon makes a great alternative to soap and is suitable for even the most sensitive skin.
Olive oil or margarine
Oil is the biggest enemy of glue. If you have olive oil at home or even margarine, do not hesitate to use it to remove the glue from false nails. The method here is simple! Apply the oil or margarine on the part where there is glue, and you will see that the residue will disappear very quickly.
laundry detergent
If the previously mentioned methods do not give you satisfactory results, laundry detergent is also an excellent alternative. A little aggressive, this one is only recommended if you cannot remove the glue from the false nails with water, lemon juice, or even olive oil.
How should we proceed? Take a quarter cup of detergent and pour it into a cup of water. Apply the mixture afterwards on the part of your hands where there is glue. Leave it on for 15 minutes, then rub it in, and you’re done!
Tip 02: Make use of manicure accessories.
Whether you use the natural method to remove glue from false nails or not, note that to be able to do this, it is recommended to always start the process with a soaking session. This technique will quickly and effectively soften the glue on your hands. You can then use specific objects to clean the glue. More details follow below.
The polisher for the nail
Sanding is a well-known and often acclaimed technique in the manicure world thanks to its efficiency. To do this, use a polisher and directly scrape the surface where there is glue.
Be careful not to touch the natural nail underneath, which must be intact to stay healthy. Contact a professional if you ever don’t know how to use a polisher. It would keep you from getting hurt.
Cuticle stick or cuticle pusher
If you are afraid of not being delicate enough, you can extract the glue another way. A cuticle stick lifts each fake nail and glues it underneath. This is a more tedious technique, but it is much safer than the others. By opting for this solution, your nails are not at risk of being damaged. Proceed slowly and gently. When all the ends are raised, you can remove the glue (and the fake nails) in one easy step.
dental floss
It is also possible to remove glue from false nails by using dental floss. As this method can be painful, it is recommended that you get another person to help you.
A friend can thread the string under the artificial nail after it has been lifted with a cuticle pusher. The movement should not be repeated. You will understand that the process is far from easy. It can, however, help you quickly remove glue from fake nails.
Lime
Like the polisher, the file can be used to remove glue from false nails. If the glue is in small quantities, you can refine it gently after the soaking session or dry it. Be very careful not to touch your fingernails. Healing of the nails in cases of injuries can never take place (it is very rare). You may even have holes in your fingernails.
Tip 03: Use acetone to remove glue from false nails
To remove glue from false nails with acetone, you have two options. The first method, and the most coveted, is the use of cotton balls and aluminum foil.
The process is quite simple. Place a cotton ball soaked in acetone on the covered false nails and wrap it tightly in aluminum foil. Feel free to squeeze a little. Do this for 10 minutes so that the glue from the fake nails can decompose well.
Just repeat this gesture on each finger to remove everything (you can also do all the fingers at the same time). Remember to cover the surrounding skin with petroleum jelly to avoid direct contact with acetone.
If you don’t have aluminum foil, try this second method as well:
Fill a small container with acetone and soak your nails in it for 20 to 30 minutes. Meanwhile, use your thumbs to rub the other four fingers. This allows the glue to be removed quickly. This method may be faster and more effective than cotton and foil, but be prepared for your skin to be a little dehydrated.
Another trick can also be applied:
- Soak the glue on your fingertips in acetone.
- With a damp cotton pad, rub to loosen and remove the false nails.
- To blur everything, use a file or a cuticle pusher.
- Use a damp cotton swab to clean.
Recommended care after removing glue from false nails
The glue on the nails leaves them exposed to external aggression. You may even feel a slight tingling because the nails have undergone a little “aggressive” treatment. The top layer of the nail has also been detached, either by a bad gesture, by acetone, or by polishing. In this way, they must be cleaned and, above all, taken care of. For this, prepare lukewarm soapy water and soak your nails again in this solution.
After a few minutes, put a little oil on your nails, preferably organic oil: sweet almond oil, olive oil, coconut oil... They will nourish and further soften your fingers. Even your skin needs it since the acetone may have affected it. A hand cream can also do the trick. You just have to distribute it on your nails and surrounding skin, or on both hands. This will promote the production of natural keratin.
It is advisable to carry out this treatment every day (or every two days), especially if your natural nails have been damaged by the glue. Indeed, they could be weakened or even brittle, especially if you are allergic to acetone.
Recommendation: Let your nails rest after the treatment.
After cleaning your nails completely, you should let them rest. This step is essential for the regeneration of your nails and for them to be healthy.
It is even advisable to wait at least a week for the small holes left by the glue to disappear. During this time, you should only take care. No polish or false nails; only moisturizing cream or oil.
Generally, estheticians and nail technicians do not take so much time. They will ask you to come by during the week.
Sometimes your manicure can be redone within an hour. This is possible only if your nails show no porosity after the glue extraction process. But even then, you have to let your nails breathe every eight weeks. The duration of this small pose should not be less than a week.
What should you do if you are allergic to false nail glue?
If you are sensitive to certain components, such as those of false nails or glue, another option is available: adhesive pads. Yes, to have a beautiful manicure with “false” false nails, you can try the adhesive models.
